just about 45 minutes ago someone knocked on my door and hubby answered (i sat at the kitchen table and watched).
it was two "brothers" out in fs and wanting to share the good news.
hubby very politely listened and when it got to the "brother" offering a wt rag hubby tactfully declined and said that he knew what they were offering (oh the madness) but was not interested (he didn't say anything about my connection to the borg).
Yep, he did good. I see the witnesses working my street from time to time. For some reason, they always skip our house. I can only imagine what they are thinking because they all know me and where I live.
Must have orders from the elders to not call.

i now stubbled.... the watchtower also does not tell new converts that although they closed the door to heaven in 1935 they had closed the door to heaven once before in 1881. they were wrong in 1881 are they wrong again now?
Nice, sensible explanation. That was always one of the things in the back of my mind as a dub. Everything physical decays, it cannot last forever.
I don't claim to know what God has planned for the future, but it can't be as the dubs claim.
I think it's easier to believe that the earth will last forever when you are young and feel indestructible. As you get older, it just becomes obvious that it is not how life works.
I watched a show on the Hubble telescope the other night and the universe is amazing. We have such a small view of things here on the earth. It's easy to get attached when all we've ever known is here on this earth. There is so much more we don't know and have not experienced.

me- now that could make life serene....there are things in life we just can not change, like others faith in something we know to be false.

I always liked the serenity prayer. Didn't know they used it at NA/AA meetings. It is good to remember when things are not going as we wish they would.
We spend way too much time trying to change things we just can't.

It is best to just avoid the calls. Much easier. The next thing they do is stop by uninvited. Just don't answer the door. They are used to it.
Last time I saw them, they stopped by while I was working in the yard. I had to talk to them, but I kept it brief and asked about their family. Then I had to go. No, I did not have time for a "visit" in the near future.
yesterday (see http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/182849/1/why-do-jws-fear-satan-and-demons-so-much ) we seemed to confirm that jws fear satan more than god.
in fact, angel eyes (after she told us about her encounter with a man who had been "dabbling in black magic and witch craft",) made this comment:oh and i dont fear jah....why on earth would i fear my loving father?.
now to be fair to angel eyes, she says she doesn't fear satan.
I grew up in a mainstream church. They believed in fearing God and that he punished people with hellfire. I could never see how a loving God would want to punish someone forever.
I got sucked into the witnesses. They believed that God punished people with everlasting death and a terrible death if they were alive when Armageddon came. I looked around and just couldn't believe that either.
Witnesses know how to "work the system" as far as keeping themselves out of trouble with the elders. If that fails, they can get dfd and reinstated which is part of the system too. Sometimes they rinse and repeat.
Many witnesses do fear Armageddon and God's wrath. In my opinion, they are just as fearful as most other religions, if not more.
just a wandering thought, what kind of religon would the jw's be if the situation was reversed and the gb was all female, only women could hold postions of power in the cong etc....?.

Living forever sounds pretty good to me. Of course, there would have to be some preconditions. I would want to be young and totally healthy too.
The problem with all of that is that physical bodies don't last forever or stay young and healthy. It goes against all the laws of the physical world.

So doctors are confused about what is blood and what is not blood. I think they are projecting their own confusion about blood onto the doctors. I can't take a lot of vaccines because of a health condition. This is too new for me to even consider it.
I do take vaccines usually.
i saw the premiere at the end of last month, but just watched the next two episodes on the web.
thought it was rather interesting.
i have never read the book on which this show is based.
I like it a lot so far. There are endless possibilities to explore. I hope they continue to do a good job.
Another show I am hooked on is Fringe.
